As I previously mentioned, upon arriving in Montevideo I had some trouble finding a place to stay. I finally ended up at the Four Seasons spending way too much money. I blame my boss who tells me that he pays me enough to afford spending a bit more occasionally. I then spent the rest of the evening doing some exploring and securing a hotel for the next night. I also took some time to book hotels in Ushuaia and El Calafate so that I would not have the same problem.
The next morning I slept longer than expected. I had to pack up and check out of the hotel. I was able to leave my bag which was a big help. There was a little concern on my part about my new accommodations so I felt better leaving my bag until I would be with it for the evening. I spent the morning checking out the old city. Lunch was at the port market where there were over 15 restaurants, many with assorted meats being grilled. The afternoon was spent with some more exploring of the city as well as some exploring of the beers that were offered. My new hotel turned out to be nice. The operator set me up for a city tour for the next morning. This worked out well as my bus and boat back to BA was not until the afternoon.
While it was nice to get away from BA for a few days, I was not terribly impressed by Montevideo. After having been in Colonia a few years ago, I think I preferred being there. It might have been the small town feel that I liked or the ease of getting around. BA provides a better city experience overall.
