My weekend finally started on Friday night at 10:30pm when we FINALLY left work! It figures that a major issue is reproduced at 5pm! Anyway, Tim and I headed to Roppongi to meet up with his girlfriend and get some Mexican food (I know Mexican food in Japan!) and then head to this bar that he always goes to. I was shocked when I looked at the clock and saw that it was 3 in the morning. I wanted to get up at a decent hour to go see some more sights, Tim’s girlfriend had to work the next day too so we decided to head out.
Saturday I finally rolled out of bed around 11am. I wasn’t too happy because I ended up sleeping a lot later than I wanted, but hurried up and got ready to head out. I was planning on heading across Tokyo Bay to Odaiba. Upon arriving I just walked around the malls and shops that they had there. I also checked out some of the parks along the bay as well as seeing VenusFort shopping mall which is a Venice themed mall and Toyota MEGA WEB. There was a traveling art exhibit that I had seen on my SF to LA roadtrip in Santa Monica last year called ashes and snow. This was a very interesting exhibit and I’m glad that I went to see it since I didn’t get to see it last year. It would have been even better if I wasn’t tired from the night before. I decided to head to Roppongi Hills for a quick bite and then call it an early night since I was so tired from the night before and had a lot to see the next day.
Sunday I had a busy day planned since I didn’t get to see everything that I wanted to the day before. I began by heading to Shinjuku to see what it was like during the day. My first stop was the TOTO Showroom. Ever since reading about this showroom of toilets I knew that I had to see what it was like so that I could share this information with my friend Pablo. TOTO makes more than just toilets and this was a showroom of all of their products from kitchen to bath. I then went up in the south tower of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Center to get some pictures from the observatory there. After a nice sushi rice bowl lunch, it was off to Roppongi to check out the den of iniquity during the day. It was nice to be able to walk around without guys bugging you to go into the strip clubs. I spent some time checking out Roppongi Hills some more and relaxing a bit. I then decided it was back to Asakusa to pick up some memorabilia from Japan (read: crap to fill up my house). I was pretty tired at this point, but headed over the bridge to Odaiba again to grab some dinner before ending the day.
