I just spent 4 days hiking around Torres del Paine one of the national parks in southern Chile. The place was amazing! I woke up early Friday morning to catch the bus from Puerto Natales to the park. After arriving at the park, I had to make a transfer to another bus that would take me to the refugio that I would be staying at. After checking in and getting my daypack ready, it was time to tackle the hike to the Torres. I know why they call them the Towers of Pain! The last hour of the hike was a 400 meter climb over boulders. About 5 or 10 minutes before reaching the top, it started snowing hard. Most of the hike it was either raining, sleeting, or snowing. By the time I reached the top, the snow was coming down pretty hard. I sat around for about 30-45 minutes and then decided to head back down. I was tired and hungry. The hike up took about 4.5 hours and it took me about 3 hours to make it back since it was mostly down hill. By the time I got back, my legs were sore and I was starting to get some sore spots on my feet. The next day I had trouble moving since I was so sore. It was a big day of hiking for me though since I was heading all the way to the other side of the park. Luckily the weather was extremely nice. In fact it was a bit too warm and sunny. I got lost a couple of times because the trail splits in places and isn´t marked too well. I was able to find my way though and met up with a number of people along the way to talk with. Upon making it to the refugio for the night, I wasn´t sure that I was going to be hiking the middle part of the W the next day.  With me being sore and knowing that the weather wasn´t that good and I would probably not be able to see anything, I wasn´t too heart broken about that thought. The next day I decided not to hike the middle part of the W but instead to hike the last part and go to see the glacier. It was well worth the hike up there and I enjoyed the views, even with the extremely strong winds. Back at the refugio I was again rooming with on of the guys that I roomed with on the ferry and met up with some other people I met along the way as well. We had a good time hanging out and talking that night. The final day, I waited for the ferry to take us back to get the bus to Puerto Natales. Upon arriving in Puerto Natales, I headed to the next bus station to grab a bus to Punta Arenas. I´m currently hanging out in Punta Arenas and might be stuck here for awhile, but I´ll write more about that later.
