I was really looking forward to this day. We would be driving down the coast the entire day and just stop to check out whatever we wanted to. I was not disappointed either. We began by checking out the area where we spent the previous night. It was then off to Monetery where we spent some time checking out the wharf area, driving by the old cannery area, and hanging out on some rocks by the beach. It was amazing to watch the tide coming in and seeing the waves break over all of the rocks. From there we took off to do the 17-mile drive. This is a famous drive that you have to pay for, but is worth the $8 for some of the spectacular views and to see some of the houses. This also takes you around Pebble Beach golf course. By the time we finished the drive, we were famished. We headed to Carmel-By-The-Sea to check out the town and grab a bite to eat. This is a neat little town, but quite the tourist trap. I would like to go back again and check out some of the little shops though, even if it is a tourist trap there are some neat stores. After lunch it was time to drive the Big Sur. This is the area where you are driving along and if you end up a bit off the road, you’ll end up in the ocean. Luckily we didn’t end up that way, but we stopped to get some great photos and explore a bit. By the end of the afternoon, we ended up at Hearst Castle. Unfortunately we didn’t make it before the tours stopped and the next available tour wasn’t for a few days. Since we couldn’t take a tour, we continued our trek south passing through Morro Bay and not stopping until we reached Pismo Beach for sunset. Pismo Beach used to have a huge clam industry. Restrictions have stopped this, but it didn’t stop us from getting some steamed clams and clam chower. It wasn’t until after we had ordered that we read that none of the clams we would be eating were from Pismo Beach. That didn’t stop us from enjoying them though. After dinner it was time to haul ass to Santa Barbara where we were meeting up with one of Jeremy’s friends from work and one of her friends. We didn’t get there until 10, but that didn’t stop us from having a fun night out on the town. Jeremy was even nice enough to make sure I did enough shots for the evening as well. What a great friend! 🙂
