As my first weekend in Beijing comes to a close, I realized that I haven’t written anything in my travel blog. Well that’s partly because until now I didn’t have much to write about. I could have written about my flight over and how long it was (18+ hours of travel time). I also thought about how I could have said something about my brief layover in the Tokyo airport and watching sumo wrestling. With that I would have mentioned how disturbing slow motion replays are when those sumo wrestlers are slapping themselves and shaking like a bowl full of jelly. Unfortunately there wasn’t much else interesting about that part of the trip. My first weekend did end much better than it started. At first I knew no one in the area and after walking to the office (so that I could find out where it was so I can walk there Monday morning) and the rest of the area (which is lacking in anything). I spent the rest of the day relaxing and napping off and on. Sunday I headed to Silk Street where I would be meeting up with another Motorolan who just localized to Beijing after being here for 5 years. Before I met with Mark though, I took a walk around the area and had numerous people ask me to buy stuff. I decided that I would wait for another day to make any purchases, so I just walked and had person after person ask me to purchase something. I finally met up with Mark and a couple of his friends to head out for dinner. We went to the Bar Street area for dinner and by the time dinner was finished we were all beat, so I came back to the hotel. Before coming back though I stopped at a CD/DVD shop and purchased the first two seasons of Nip Tuck to watch while I’m here. I’ve heard good things about the show and since the DVDs are so cheap, I thought I would watch it in the evenings. I’m looking forward to starting work tomorrow and meeting everyone I’ll be working with. I have plans to check out many of the sites in and around Beijing over the next few weeks that I’m here. I’ll be sure to keep everyone posted and don’t forget to email me. It does get boring and lonely here in the evenings, so unless something comes up, I’ll be sure to respond. Until next time when hopefully I’m not as jet lagged…
