It seems that my day actually started a few times. It seems that I was snoring (which I never do) and was keeping the guy in the bunk below me awake. He would wake me up, I would roll over and go back to sleep. I guess it was bad enough that he decided to switch rooms.
When I finally got up and showered, I got my breakfast which consisted of a croissant and cappuccino. From there it was off to the Colosseum. After taking a tour which was definitely not worth the 3.5 Euro, I headed to Palatine Hill and walked around there and the Roman Forum again. I made it back to Capitoline Hill and went back to Piazza Trevi to have lunch. The panini I had was fantastic. The cheese was to die for. I then headed to the Spanish Steps so that I could get some day light pictures and then it was back to the hostel for some rest. I took a bit of an afternoon nap and then decided that I wanted to see what else was out there. I had already seen most of the big sites I wanted to see, except for the Vatican and Trastevere. I ended up going to Circo Massimo, which is an old chariot racing arena that has since turned into a dog park. From here I walked toward Capitoline Hill again and stopped to see an old church along the way. Got myself some gilato and walked once more toward Piazza Trevi. By this time my feet were extremely sore, so I decided to head back to the hostel again. Unfortunately I took a wrong turn and ended up at the Spanish Steps again! I wasn’t too happy about this, but finally made it back to the hostel. The day ended with dinner at a local family owned restaurant. The meal was spaghetti with tuna, which was another fantastic meal. Dessert was mozzarella cheese with bread. I have never had cheese for dessert, but this was definitely worth it. What a way to end the day.
I have found out though that the first train in the morning to the airport leaves after I have to be at the airport. I am not sure what I am going to do yet. I am looking into checking out of the hostel early and sleeping at the airport or getting a room at the hotel there. Unless someone books my bed at the hostel, I will be charged for it though. I can also stay at the hostel and take a cab in the morning, which would be about 45 Euro, compared to the 10 Euro for the train. I’m sure that I’ll figure something out soon. I’m off to have myself breakfast and visit the Pope.
